Cuscini by Giulio Ridolfo

Like a refined leather-bound travel diary, the collection of Journey decorative cushions celebrates the atmospheres and memories of once-visited places, summarising them in a sensitive and cultured account notable for its vivid colours. Designed for Poltrona Frau by Giulio Ridolfo in collaboration with Chiara Novello, the Journey decorative cushions depict the fields parched by the sun, the natural flow of watercourses and the yards of villages lit up by lanterns through a precious 3D-effect geometric weave.

Vanity Fair XC

As the product-symbol of the company, the Vanity Fair armchair embodies all those values of timeless elegance, quality materials and handicraft skill that have made the Poltrona Frau brand famous over the years. Officially named “Model 904” but known as Vanity Fair since 1984, this chair has become one of the universally recognised icons of Italian design.

Kyoto

Understated and refined, the Kyoto table by architect and designer Gianfranco Frattini is the perfect blend of design vision and master craftsmanship. In the early 70s, during a trip to Japan to study the work of the local craftsmen, Gianfranco Frattini visited the craft workshops of Kyoto together with expert carpenter Pierluigi Ghianda, who would become his friend and collaborator.

Inspired by the processing techniques and aesthetics of these places, the designer came up with the idea for the joint that would form the basis of the table of the same name, production of which began in 1974. Kyoto immediately became synonymous with a concept of understatement which, as in the best Italian design tradition, combines a brilliant idea with impeccable execution. In the Kyoto table the construction concept becomes the object itself. The absence of decorative elements exalts the beauty of the raw material – the Canaletto walnut inserts have a precise strengthening function – requiring great technical ability and care as well as an in-depth knowledge of the material. Revisited by Poltrona Frau with complete respect for the original project, the Kyoto table reflects the skills and expertise of a new wave of artisans, heirs of the rich Italian wood crafting tradition, and stands alongside Albero and Turner as an example of high-end craftsmanship. The Kyoto table forms part of the permanent collection of the Design Museum at the Milan Triennale.

The Kyoto table is available in the square 102 cm version with height of 32 cm, or in the 102×49 cm version, also 32 cm high. The surface and legs are in Extra light solid beech wood with solid Canaletto walnut inserts at the end of the boards that make up the top. The wooden boards are connected with 45° joints that form a square pattern. Slide-off counterpoise legs that can be positioned as desired.

All surfaces are treated with a protective transparent varnish.

The Poltrona Frau logo and the designer’s signature are laser engraved on one of the faces of the leg supports.

Viola

Inspired by the ultra-comfortable chair created for the 3-Michelin star Four Season restaurant in Hong Kong, the Viola chair, designed by AB Concept for Poltrona Frau, has elegant lines that sacrifice nothing in terms of comfort.

Times Lounge

The design principles that made the Times bed unique are revisited in the Times Lounge armchair to create a timeless seat which combines an advanced construction technique with understated and mellow contemporary aesthetics. Designed by Spalvieri & Del Ciotto for Poltrona Frau, the Times Lounge armchair has a sophisticated and ultra-light structure and a cover which naturally assumes its forms like a tailored suit, making it soft and welcoming.

The Times Lounge pouf follows the same conceptual lines. The end product is an item designed to complement the armchair and further enhance the experience of comfort, but it is also able to stand alone and be used as a temporary seat.

The structure of the Times Lounge armchair is made from solid ash in a moka or wenge stain. The wood has a visible circular cross section and an oval cross section for the lower connecting beams. The armchair cushion support embraces the wooden structure and is made from Pelle Frau® leather. A supporting technical textile located under the seat acts as a spring. The seat and backrest cushions are padded with polyurethane foam and polyester wadding while the armrests are padded with polyester wadding. The lining of the backrest and armrest cushions is stitched as a single element, the lining of the seat cushion is separate and attached to the rest of the lining. The cushions are secured to the structure using hidden zips and snap buttons. The cushions can also be covered with Pelle Frau® leather or fabric. In both cases the cover can be removed. An additional cover can be purchased separately.

The structure of the Times Lounge pouf is in solid ash and is distinctive for its two circular-section stands at the sides connected by two oval-section bars which echo the design choices of the armchair. It is available with a moka- or wenge-stained finish. A band of Pelle Frau® leather forms the taut surface over which the second padded cover, in polyurethane foam and polyester wadding, is positioned. The upholstery is available in Pelle Frau® leather or fabric. In both cases the upper padded cover can be removed.
The Times Lounge armchair is 100% FSC® certified for all upholstery combinations that involve the use of Pelle Frau® leather and fabric not containing viscose deriving from forests.
